ABOUT

Write to Comedy is my ongoing conversation about television comedy.

I’m Jacquie J Sarah, a writer and script editor with a lifelong habit of looking past the punchline to see how it was built. Mostly British, often American, occasionally further afield, this is where I look a little closer at the shows that make us laugh and ask what they’re really doing underneath.

Culture, character, structure, representation, the quiet power of a perfectly timed line. It’s all fair game.

I’m not interested in outrage or “worst of” lists. I’m far more curious about why comedy works, how it reflects us, and what it reveals about the time it was made in. Sometimes that means nostalgia. Sometimes it means social commentary. Sometimes it just means admitting I’ve overthought a joke again.

Every piece is available to read and to listen to, with audio recorded by me. No synthetic voices. No automation. Just a real voice and a genuine enthusiasm for comedy that deserves attention.

If you enjoy comedy, even casually, you’re welcome here. If you’re interested in how it’s built and what it says about us, even better.

HELLO

I'm Jacquie J Sarah

I'm a UK-based writer, script editor, and performer drawn to stories with humour, heart, and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. My work is character-led, slightly sharp around the edges, and often inspired by people I absolutely cannot admit to knowing.

I’m part of BAFTA Connect and have worked across theatre, audio, and screen, from ten produced plays to original podcasts under my Deliciously Bright umbrella.

Alongside my own writing, I support writers through JacquieJSarah.com, offering script editing and creative development. Through Deliciously Bright & Co, I work with podcasters, writers and small businesses to bring clarity to their ideas, structure to their projects, and momentum to the things they’ve been meaning to finish.

Write to Comedy grew naturally from that same instinct. I’ve always been as interested in how comedy is built as in the laugh itself. When I’m not writing, I’m usually pulling sitcoms apart for fun, overthinking structure, or trying to explain why a throwaway joke from 2009 still lives rent-free in my brain.

In short, I believe comedy is never just about laughs.
